The Swiss group “Linke PoC/Migrantifa” posted on Facebook that pizza or toast Hawaii is problematic cultural appropriation and a form of racism: “The stereotypes regarding Hawaii were created by a ‘white gaze’, namely that of the white, often a male tourist who associated Hawaii with a vacation and tropical vibe and who particularly fetishized Hawaiian women.” The group therefore recommends: “Order ‘pizza with pineapple’ instead of ‘pizza Hawaii’. Also applies to the toast.”
