Chattram: Former captain Mushfiqur Rahim has become the first Bangladeshi to score 5,000 runs in Test cricket.
Mushfiqur overtook his teammate Tamim Iqbal (4981). Tamim, who scored 133, withdrew due to injury, favoring Rahim. He has scored 5,000 runs in 81 Tests. The run chase averaged 36.26. There are also eight centuries and 25 centuries. Rahim hit 105 off 282 balls, including four fours. Mushfiqur Rahim added a century with wicketkeeper-batsman Lytton Das (88 off 189 balls) for the fourth wicket. At the start of the fourth day, the batsman needed 15 more runs to reach 5,000. Tamim Iqbal returned from injury with 19 runs to reach 5,000. At stumps on the fourth day, Sri Lanka were 39 for two.
Score: Sri Lanka 397 in the first innings and 39 in the second innings. Bangladesh 465 in the first innings.
With just one day left, nothing short of a draw can be expected. Oshada Fernando (19) and Lasith Embuldenia (two) were out. Captain and opener Dimuth Karunaratne (18) is at the crease. In Bangladesh’s first innings, Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha took four wickets and Asita Fernando three.
