Rahul will confirm if the injury is fixed
KL Rahul’s inclusion in the squad for the Asia Cup was already controversial. The player, who was undergoing treatment at the National Cricket Academy, was included in the team for the first time after recovering from an injury. But Rahul is not playing in the first two matches of the Asia Cup.
If the injury persists, Rahul may not be included in the World Cup squad. In that case, Sanju Samson will be in the running as a wicket-keeper batsman. India will announce the same team for the World Cup and the series against Australia.
They will be out of the Asia Cup team
Two players are likely to be dropped from the currently announced Asia Cup squad. Tilak Verma, who has not played a single ODI so far, is unlikely to be included in India’s World Cup squad. It is likely that Suryakumar Yadav will be retained and Tilak left out.
One of the Pacers is likely to be left out. 5 pacers are currently in the 17 member squad. In this, the famous Krishna or Shardul Thakur may be excluded. Batting well gives Shardul a slight upper hand.
Will there be unexpected surprises?
There is little chance of much experimentation in the squad for a big tournament like the World Cup. When India’s World Cup squad was announced in 2019, the inclusion of Vijay Shankar was a surprise.
The then selector MSK Prasad described Vijay Shankar as a 3D player. However, the experiment failed. Vijay Shankar has not been included in the Indian team since then.
