Dressed in their orange vests, around a hundred men are busy between Palézieux and Puidoux to replace seven kilometers of rails. On the next track, trains continue to run. When one of them passes, the workers greet the locomotive driver with a friendly wave of the hand, before returning to their position. “It’s tradition, it reassures everyone a little,” informs David Fattebert, CFF director for French-speaking Switzerland, who is observing the scene with interest. A little less than a kilometer from Palézieux station, a colossal project began on August 14 for a period of four months.
