Raising Awareness on Incest: Urgent Need for Reforms and Accessible Treatment | SOS Inceste

For Lily Bruyère, coordinator of SOS Inceste, these advances are very important. But they remain insufficient. “Many treatments are still not reimbursed. Sometimes a person will have to go to the psychologist for years. However, there are only ten sessions that are reimbursed. This is completely insufficient. Some people also develop digestive or other problems. There are no refunds either“.

We need a national awareness and prevention plan

Furthermore, SOS Inceste calls for a Parliamentary Commission similar to that which emerged for sexual abuse in the Church. “We must be able to think together about a national awareness and prevention plan on the issue of incest, and on appropriate and reimbursed care. adds Lily Bruyère.

For Miriam Ben Jattou, the indirect cost of what she suffered is enormous. “To treat this mental health, it costs me more than 600 euros per month. I am only reimbursed 150 euros per year from the mutual insurance company. […] I suffer from complex post-traumatic stress“.

Shame has changed sides

Contacted by us, Miriam’s mother acknowledges the acts allegedly committed by her ex-husband, but not by herself. In the meantime, Miriam wants to continue her fight in court and continue speaking out. “I want to tell all the people who thought they had the right to appropriate my body that they didn’t win. Shame has changed sides“.

To make children aware of the horror of incest, Miriam Ben Jattou wrote a book, entitled Le Secret, under the pseudonym Tayiam. Eddy Kaganek, for his part, participated in the documentary “Behind the facade… Incest”.

These two victims agreed to break the taboo, so that things could change one day. So that society opens its eyes to what is happening behind the locked doors of certain families. More numerous than we think.
