Effective July 1, 2023, Randy DeBortoli will be the new Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology for Daimler Truck North America (DTNA).

The manager has more than three decades of experience in heavy vehicle engineering at the automaker. He started his DTNA career in 1992.

Starting out as a mechanical engineer for Freightliner, he rose to manager of custom engineering, director of engineering for the Western Star brand, and then chief engineer since 2012.

Randy DeBortoli has led the Product Validation Engineering Department at DTNA since 2021.

As Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology, DeBortoli will oversee all functional areas of vehicle development, including engineering platform management, vehicle engineering and product validation, product compliance and regulatory affairs, and future technology development, including advanced engineering and autonomous truck engineering.

John O’Leary, President and CEO of DTNA, believes that Randy DeBortoli’s experience and in-depth knowledge of our company, products, customers and industry will be instrumental in helping drive his vision to lead sustainable transportation.

DeBortoli is a mechanical engineer from the University of California, Davis, and will remain in Portland.

As a member of the company’s senior leadership team reporting directly to John O’Leary, Randy DeBortoli will serve on the DTNA Operating Committee. He replaces Rainer Mueller-Finkeldei, who will serve as head of product engineering at Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Stuttgart. Germany, as recently announced.

Earlier, it was announced that Rainer Müller-Finkeldei will take over responsibility for Product Engineering at Mercedes-Benz Trucks in May 2023. In his new position, he will lead the engineering divisions of this brand in Germany, Brazil and Turkey.

Müller-Finkeldei replaces Uwe Baake, who retired on schedule at the end of April 2023.

The executive joined the Daimler Group in 1995. He began his professional career as a Development Engineer in Research and Development at the former Daimler-Benz AG.

In 2010, he became director of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Mechatronics, before being appointed senior vice president of product engineering and technology at Daimler Truck North America in April 2020.
