Rangers narrow UEFA Youth League aggregate deficit in 3-2 loss to Dynamo Kyiv

Rangers kept their UEFA Youth League ambitions alive with a dramatic late response against Dynamo Kyiv, narrowing the aggregate deficit in the domestic champions path second-round tie.

The young Scottish side travelled with a squad bolstered by Queen’s Park loanees Lewis Stewart and Aiden McCallion, alongside Alloa Athletic pair Kyle Glasgow and Max Cameron. However, the visitors fell behind just three minutes into the match when Pavlo Liusin unleashed a long-range effort that deflected off Corey Ngwenya and beat goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire.

Rangers missed several opportunities to draw level during the opening half and were punished again in stoppage time before the break. Arsenii Fedorenko broke away from the defence to beat McGuire and double Dynamo’s lead.

Glasgow and Fergusson strike to keep tie alive

After a determined response following the interval, Glasgow eventually pulled Rangers back into the contest with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock. The midfielder capitalized by dispossessing the Dynamo goalkeeper inside the six-yard box before calmly sliding the ball into an empty net.

The revival was immediately checked when Yaroslav Buravtsov restored Dynamo’s two-goal cushion moments later. Facing a daunting deficit ahead of the return leg in Scotland, Rangers kept pushing and found a crucial lifeline in stoppage time. Cameron Fernie fired an effort that was parried into the danger area, and Coben Fergusson reacted quickest to hammer home the rebound, making it 3-2.

The late intervention ensures the tie remains finely poised as the young squad prepares to host the decisive second leg next week.
