A massive mobilization of motorcyclists, who claimed to belong to the Los Choneros criminal gang, took the road that connects Guayaquil with the Litoral Penitentiary (the most violent prison in the country) demanding that the government return alias Fito, leader of that narco-criminal group , to the Regional jail where he was until the last weekend.

The government of Ecuador announced that the head of the Los Choneros gang will continue to be held in the maximum security compound of La Roca in Guayaquil. This decision was made due to the high danger that the prisoner represents.
José Adolfo Macías Villamar, alias Fito, the leader of the most dangerous criminal organization in the country, was transferred on August 12 from the regional prison to the maximum security prison after the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio who denounced having been threatened by Macías Villamar .

Before being transferred, it was verified that alias Fito had a series of facilities in the Guayas Regional Prison, including a large cell with a built-in wardrobe, a three-seater bed, and a bathroom with a hot shower. This type of preferential treatment was already denounced by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in its evaluation of the prison situation in Ecuador, published in 2022.
This Monday, a group of 150 people aboard motorcycles dressed in white T-shirts appeared at the prison headquarters to protest against the transfer action.
The surveillance cameras of the Guayaquil Citizen Security Corporation gave the first alerts about the street demonstration. At the same time, several prisoners from the Penitentiary and the Regional jail climbed to the roofs of the pavilions with banners with messages such as “We want Fito’s return.”
Faced with these incidents, the police activated their units to control both the mobilization on the street and the prisoners. The National Comprehensive Care Service, the entity in charge of prisons, reported that the inmates were placed back in their wards.

According to local media, Gordo Candela presented seizures, which forced him to receive medical attention in the northern prison in Guayaquil. Due to his condition, the director of La Roca and five prison guards took him to a medical center to do health tests.
