Rapid announced the extension of Leopold Querfeld’s contract until 2025 on Tuesday. The contract of the Austrian football U21 international would have expired at the end of the season. This season, the 19-year-old central defender has made 18 appearances for the pros. Rapids Managing Director Sport Markuskatzer had always described further cooperation with Querfeld as one of his top priorities in recent weeks.

“I’ve been able to enjoy my football training here in Hütteldorf since I was nine and I have a very close connection to the club. I’m still at the beginning of my professional career and I’m convinced that I’ll find the best conditions at SK Rapid to take the next steps in my development to be able to,” Querfeld was quoted as saying in a club broadcast.
Katzener was also satisfied. “We are 100 per cent convinced of his qualities as a player but especially as a person and are therefore very pleased that Leo has decided to stay despite some interesting offers.” Managing Director Steffen Hofmann added that Querfeld saw great potential. “The performance limit has not yet been reached,” said the German.
