macOS Ventura 13.2 beta now supported
Rapid Security Response is available for device users running iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.1, and now macOS Ventura 13.2 beta, according to information from our colleagues at 9to5Mac. As a reminder, this function allows devices to receive security updates more regularly. They will be applied in the background and, most often, transparent to users.
The iOS 16.2 beta saw the receipt of two test updates from Rapid Security Response. With the arrival of the function on macOS Ventura 13.2 beta, users could in turn experience trial updates.
Faster updates
The generalization of this security feature is essential in 2022, because it reduces the exposure time of iPhone, iPad and Mac users to security vulnerabilities fixed by developers. For several years, they have been trying to reduce the time between the discovery of a vulnerability and the application of a security patch.
On the other hand, Apple specifies on his site that functionality may involve restarting Safari, or even the device during important security updates. “Security updates that involve the operating system require the device to be restarted. Security updates that involve Safari require the user to fully close the app”indicates the manufacturer.
Deactivation of the option possible
Rapid Security Response can be disabled in iOS 16 and MacOS.
- On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates, then uncheck the Security updates and system files option.
- On Mac, point to the Advanced option of Software Update and uncheck Install security updates and system files.
An operation not recommended, but which can be useful in certain situations, especially in the event of stability problems with your iPhone or Mac.
