A rare sight took place on the night of Sunday to Monday: the moon turned red. A total lunar eclipse was visible from the Swiss sky. This phenomenon occurs about twice a year. This is when the earth passes between the moon and the sun, creating perfect alignment.

All three are aligned in a straight line. The moon is at the end: the earth will project a cone of shadow at the rear and will generate the principle of the eclipse: “This phenomenon is divided into several phases. It begins with the entry of the moon into the penumbra of the earth. The moon then sees a partially eclipsed sun. Then continues its course by entering the cone of shadow of the earth: it is the beginning of the total eclipse. From the moon, we can no longer see the sun”, explains Eric Achkar, President of the Astronomical Society of Geneva.
