Real estate: Investors are holding back

2023-07-07 22:10:00

“With this decline, Austria is following the European trend. At the moment, there is a massive drop in prices on all European investment markets,” says Lukas Schwarz from the real estate service provider CBRE.

One of the main reasons for the decline is that buyers and sellers have different price expectations. The interest in buying is there, but buyers are not willing to pay the high prices that are sometimes still being asked, says Schwarz. In the second quarter, the interest rate hikes were clearly felt, resulting in fewer transactions.

In the first half of the year, most investments were made in retail properties in Austria. Office and logistics areas followed. 89 percent of the investors come from Austria.
