Real Madrid, the leaders of the Spanish first division, said today, Wednesday, that its Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, had contracted the new, highly contagious and spreading virus, a week before his match against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Thus, Ancelotti, 62, will miss his team’s match in the local league at Celta Vigo next Saturday.
Four days after the local meeting with Celta Vigo, Real Madrid will face rival Chelsea, Ancelotti’s former team, in the first leg of the quarter-finals in the most important European club competitions.
Real Madrid is at the top of the Spanish League with 66 points from 29 games, nine points ahead of Seville, the closest pursuer, while Barcelona is third with 54 points.
