Shortly after halftime, Brahim Díaz opened the score in the renovated Santiago Bernabeu, assisted by Luka Modric. The Real Madrid striker brilliantly shot the ball into the far corner, much to the delight of the cheering coach Ancelotti. De Koninklijke’s second goal came from Jude Bellingham, who came into the team halfway through the second half and scored shortly afterwards with a simple tap-in. For Bellingham it was his eighteenth goal in the competition this season. In injury time, striker Joselu also contributed.

FC Barcelona lost in regional derby
FC Barcelona knew that it could not draw or lose when visiting Girona, but was unable to postpone rival Real Madrid’s championship celebration. Xavi Hernandez’s team lost 4-2 in the regional derby against Girona, in which Daley Blind started the match as a starter for the home team.
The game in Girona started spectacularly, with both teams scoring within five minutes. On the stroke of half time, FC Barcelona took the lead through the spot, but the 1-2 score was completely reversed after half time.

Record champion
Real Madrid now has 87 points from 34 games. Girona, which rises to second place after beating Barcelona, has 74 from as many matches. That gap cannot be closed with four more matches. Barcelona remains stuck at 73 points and thus occupies third place.
Real Madrid was already the record champion of Spain and with its 36th national championship it widened the gap with number two Barcelona even further. The Catalans became champions 27 times, Atlético Madrid eleven times.
The record champion of Spain is also active in the Champions League. Real Madrid drew the first leg in the semi-final against Bayern Munich and will play the Germans again at home on Wednesday.
