Philippe Diallo, President of the French Football Federation, expressed his optimism about the participation of stars, especially Real Madrid players, with the national team in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, although the French club does not intend to “release” its players in the session scheduled from July 24 to August 9 next. Florentino Perez, President of the Royal Club, sent a letter to this effect to the relevant federations.
Le Figaro newspaper said that the “big bet” primarily concerns star Kylian Mbappe, even though he has not officially signed for Real Madrid.
The “Merengue” management wrote a letter naming three of the team’s French stars: Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien, Chouamini, and Ferland Mendy. This means that there will be no player from “Real” who can participate in the Paris tournament, unless there is a change in the position of the Spanish club.
It is known that clubs are not obligated to allow their players to participate in the Olympic tournaments, because they do not fall within the framework of the “international agenda” set by the International Federation (FIFA).
The Monte Carlo Sport Radio and Television Network reported that if Real Madrid has the right to do so, then this situation, if Mbappe moves to Real Madrid, will jeopardize his chances of participating with the Olympic team, as he has been dreaming of this tournament for months.
When I asked Le Figaro, the president of the French Federation, about the matter, he said: I want the best possible team to represent France in the tournament, but I do not yet know who Mbappe is going to, because the player’s position has not yet been officially announced, and whether he will stay with the club. He added: We are fighting in cooperation with Thierry Henry, the coach of the Olympic team, in order to convince the largest number of clubs to allow their French players to participate in the tournament, indicating that he knows very well that Mbappe in particular wants very much to participate.
Diallo expressed his deep regret for Real Madrid’s position, which closed the door to the “dream” of many players, and said: In any case, I respect the decision, and by the way, it is the only club that sent us a letter officially informing us of its disapproval for its players to participate in the tournament.
He added: We have to be optimistic, as there is still “space” of time, and if it requires traveling to Madrid to meet Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, to discuss this matter, I will certainly do so, because France’s possession of the best players in the world is a “trump card” for our Olympic team.
