Don’t get me wrong: the Realme 9i features a photo block with three sensors, but only the main one is really usable. It has a 50 megapixel sensor and optics opening at f / 1.8, flanked by two sensors of 2 Mpx each, one dedicated to portrait mode and the other to macro.

The Realme 9i 5G certainly “cheats” a little by glorifying a photo block of which only one element is usable. Fortunately, this module allows you to take very correct photos, at least in its price category. Understand that during the day, in the center of the image, the smartphone is capable of restoring a certain number of critical details (colored balls, in particular) despite a lack of visible sharpness. Realme chooses an accentuation of contrasts to compensate for it, mainly sinning by an unnatural rendering. On the periphery of the image, there is blur and a little distortion, signaling the shortcomings of the optics retained by the manufacturer.
The nighttime results of the Realme 9i 5G are much less convincing. If the desaturation observable on the shots taken using the Samsung Galaxy A22 5G does not appear there, the noise which constellates the image makes many details disappear. The optical defects observed during the day are accentuated and the edges of the images are too blurry to satisfy.
Details that the 50 Mpx mode of the Realme 9i 5G lacks interest. In the absence of pixel-binningthe level of detail drops at night and hardly increases during the day.
Front module, portrait and video mode
The Realme 9i 5G is less good at selfies. Its 8 Mpx sensor with f / 2 optics delivers frankly smooth images, even by deactivating the embellishment function of the grain of the skin (activated by default). The accompanying portrait mode, imperfect, tends to replace flyaway hair with a slight halo surrounding the face. The clipping operated with the back module of the device – which benefits from a 2 Mpx sensor dedicated to portraits – lacks naturalness and failures are unfortunately frequent. Finally, note that the smartphone can film in 1080p at 30 fps on the front and back, without stabilization. Beware of abrupt gestures, therefore.
