In this regard, Dr. Hamada Sharif, Associate Director of the Medicine Authority for Community Communication, said that the change in the color of a child’s teeth occurs for many reasons, such as taking some medications.

Sharif identified the most prominent drugs that change the color of a child’s teeth in the following drugs:

Some antibiotics, particularly tetracycline and doxycycline, because they affect the formation of tooth enamel in children under the age of eight.

Some antihistamines to treat allergies in children.

He added that discoloration of a child’s teeth may be a side effect of some mouthwashes that contain chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride.

He explained that the color of the child’s teeth may have certain indications, such as gray or black, adding that it indicates caries.

Sharif stressed that the injuries that the child suffers in his teeth during exercise can lead to a change in their color with repeated trauma, as a result of the impact of the enamel layer.

He pointed out that stains or pigmentation may indicate a defect in the formation of the child’s deciduous or permanent teeth.
