Future entrepreneurs should pay attention to a new change announced this week by the Federal Revenue Service, which states that the National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) will undergo some changes soon. In accordance with normative instruction nº 2,229, it is established that the new CNPJs will include letters and numbers from 2026.

The arrival of the alphanumeric CNPJ, according to the Federal Revenue, aims to guarantee continuity of public policies, in addition to also ensuring the availability of identification numbers for companies without any type of technical problem for the current system.

With the change, the new CNPJ identification number will have 14 positions in alphanumeric format. It is expected that the first eight positions will be responsible for identifying the root of the new number, which will also have numbers and letters. In the four positions that follow, we will have the representation of the order of establishment.
