A month ago, a couple from Jodoignois, born in 1988 for her and 1986 for him, found themselves in Nivelles on the dock of the criminal court. They had to explain two scenes of beatings which had taken place in front of their building, in the city of Gadale.
On October 15, 2022, the defendant hit one of her neighbors, who had made a comment to her because she was not keeping her dog on a leash. The man, who is elderly, was first slapped and then pushed against a car. He was on the ground when the lady’s companion arrived and hit him in turn, kicking him.
Other neighbors had to intervene and when the police arrived, the victim was completely in shock while the attacker did not let go and was still aggressive.
“I went out with my dog but the leash was in the car, the defendant explained in court. My companion had passed through the garage and was arriving to take me in the car. I tried to explain that to this gentleman but he insisted. At one point, I told him to mind his own business and left. He then punched me from behind. So I pushed him away. Yes, I slapped him , because he was attacking me while I was looking for my glasses on the ground! That’s why my companion arrived.”
Witnesses confirmed the slap given by the defendant, the fall of the victim and the kick given by the friend. On the other hand, none saw any blows given by the elderly neighbor. Now having received it, the Jodoignoise has launched a direct summons against the civil party…
The second scene took place 15 days later, this time over a parking issue. After an altercation with the young woman, the victim, aged 76, wanted to leave but was caught and then hit by the companion.
“This couple is sowing terror in the building,” the civil party’s lawyer argued. “They let their dog do its business in the common areas, they create a lot of tension. Life has become impossible in this building: while “They were owners, my clients rented elsewhere and they put their apartment up for sale. But the intimidation continues against members of their family.”
On the side of the public prosecutor, we castigated the ease of taking action by the two Jodoignois who did not hesitate to attack elderly people, and their lack of questioning. Heavy labor sentences were required against them, while the prosecutor requested the acquittal of the first victim as part of the action launched by the defendant.
The judgment which has just fallen effectively pronounces this acquittal. But he is more severe towards the two defendants. The thirty-year-old receives three months in prison with a probationary suspension requiring training in the management of aggression, and her companion receives an eight-month probationary suspension and a 400 euro fine.
