SEATTLE — Lance Lynn tied a White Sox record with 16 strikeouts in a 5-1 series finale loss to the Mariners Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park, a mark first set by Jack Harshman on July 25, 1954.

Lynn, who pitched into the eighth inning, left the game after giving up a leadoff single to Kolten Wong, with Chicago trailing by one run. Lynn induced 33 scoreless swings, tied for the fourth most in the pitch tracking era (since 2008). He not only surpassed his previous career high of 12, but also became the first major league pitcher to strike out more than 14 this season. His 16 guillotines are the most since the Braves’ Spencer Strider struck out 16 on Sept. 1, 2022.

Lynn has had problems this year. He entered Sunday’s game with the second-worst ERA among all qualified pitchers (6.75), and had allowed at least five runs in each of his previous three outings. Against Seattle, however, he allowed just three runs and four hits and two walks while throwing a total of 114 pitches.
