In view of the heat, no course records were broken on yesterday’s public holiday, but never before have so many amateur athletes and young runners taken part in the Marchtrenker Stadtgrandprix. “We had 180 more runners than the previous record number of participants, and every party would be happy about such an increase,” says Martin Wiesinger, chairman of ASKÖ Marchtrenk, which organized the run in cooperation with the city of Marchtrenk for the ninth time.

The organizers themselves were surprised by the high number of young runners, so more start numbers had to be ordered, and a total of 170 children and young people took part in the run. They started five years ago with 20 children.

In view of the high summer temperatures, the Marchtrenk fire brigade provided a spray fountain to cool down the running course, two groups of drummers set the pace and motivated people to keep going despite temperatures of around 30 degrees.

4:57 minutes for the mile

As always, the distances at the Stadtgrandprix were measured in miles. Lukas Meindlhumer (Klinikum Wels) won the 1-mile run in 4:57 minutes. The fastest woman over the mile was Marie Brummer (PSV Wels) in 6:17 minutes. Local hero and triathlete Alexander Bründl (starlim/sterner) won the 3-mile run in 15:27, while Sigrid Herndler (laufend-besser.at) won the women’s race in 19:14 minutes.

In the 10-mile run, Florian Böhm from Union Rohrbach-Berg set the winning time of 58:01. Marisa Ott from Gmunden won the women’s race in 1:22:24.

Most of the adult participants started in the ten-mile relay race. The “RC Bananas” with Thomas Kremayr, Maria and David Pangalila, Mathias Deutschbauer and Florian Heinrich won this one.

As the largest participating Marchtrenker group, FF Klappern can look forward to 444.44 euros from Mayor Paul Mahr.

The sports festival was moderated by Günther Weidlinger and Walter Ameshofer. After the race, the athletes were able to strengthen themselves extensively at the Marchtrenker Strudel Day. 50 cents per piece goes to charity.
