Red Bull F1 leaders reveal Daniel Ricardo’s third driver appointment[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull F1 motorsport adviser Helmut Marko has confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo will be third driver for 2023.

In an interview with Sky Germany on Friday at the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Helmut Marko revealed that Daniel Ricciardo, who was released from McLaren at the end of the season, was “with us”.

Daniel Ricciardo could not match Lando Norris’ dominating performance and McLaren ended Ricciardo’s contract a year early in favor of signing Oscar Piastri.

Liam Lawson will remain Red Bull and AlphaTauri’s reserve driver for 2023, with Daniel Ricciardo joining as third driver.

Daniel Ricciardo drove for Red Bull from 2014 to 2018 before moving to Renault for the 2019 season.

At last weekend’s F1 Grand Prix in Brazil, Daniel Ricciardo denied that he had already signed a contract with Red Bull. He was also said to be in talks with Mercedes about an unfilled reserve position for 2023.

Daniel Ricciardo is aiming to return to the F1 grid full-time in 2024.

Red Bull Racing’s current drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are under contract with the team until the end of 2028 and 2024 respectively.
