Red Bull Racing’s F1 driver Sergio Perez thinks it’s too early for F1 to come to a conclusion about the new generation F1 car in 2022.

Since the start of the 2022 season, cars have been bounced straight as a side effect of the ground effect effect. To maximize downforce, new-generation F1 cars are running much closer to the ground, with a stiffer suspension setup than before, leading to complaints from some drivers.

Mercedes F1 is a team that has raised voices on porpoising / bouncing issues, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell questioning the safety of the situation.

Red Bull Racing was critical of the FIA’s decision, and team representative Christian Horner claimed that his team did not suffer from bouncing.

Asked if he thinks F1 has gone wrong with the new regulation, Sergio Perez commented, “I think it’s too early to judge this regulation.”

“I think they’re bringing good races. I’m sure we can follow them up close. I think the downside is the bouncing we’re experiencing.”

“But we’re just starting a new era, so we need to take the time to come to terms with the new regulations. I don’t think it’s a problem.”

Some argue that Red Bull Racing opposes the change in F1 regulations due to the fast pace at the start of the 2022 campaign.

Ferrari’s F1 cars, especially on the garage side of Carlos Sainz, occasionally have a lot of straight bounces, but the pace isn’t hindered.

Carlos Sainz admits he was surprised at how quickly the FIA chose to take action in response to driver complaints.

“The FIA has definitely listened to the conversations and driver complaints we had with them in the last few weeks,” said Carlos Sainz.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect such a quick reaction or action, because I think we really need to find out more about the actions we should take to make these cars better in the future.”
