RBR Hungarian GP’s latest upgrade will increase RB19’s lap time by 0.2 seconds
The latest upgrade of Red Bull Racing, the leader of the F1 2023 team standings, appeared in the paddock of the Hungarian GP this weekend. According to foreign media Auto Motor und Sport, the effect is equivalent to the upgrade they launched in the Azerbaijan GP, that is, the lap time was increased by 0.2 seconds.
Despite their absolute dominance in the title race, the Red Bull team, which leads both the driver and constructors championships, is not letting up, rolling out the latest upgrades for this weekend and the next few races, as they attempt to challenge and break McLaren’s 11-game winning streak set in 1988.
The most obvious part of the Red Bull team’s upgraded appearance is the side cabin air intake. Compared with the previous wide and flattened design, it is further widened and flattened, and the front diversion section is shallower, which looks like a letterbox inlet. Additionally, the Red Bull team have made modifications to the front wing for this weekend’s race, adding a Gurney winglet to the inboard end of the upper wing.
Red Bull ace Max Verstappen said: “We’ve introduced some upgrades this weekend and hopefully they will work as we expect so we can find the extra performance in the next races, so let’s see how we perform on a track that requires high downforce and relatively low cornering speeds.”
