The end of the year is approaching and the platforms are taking stock. After Spotify, Apple or even TikTok, it’s Reddit’s turn to reveal these figures. And in 2022, the platform has continued to grow.
Reddit seduces. The community platform has been able to attract new users in 2022. Looking back on the year, Reddit revealed more than 100,000 active communities worldwide and more than 430 million posts, a growth of 14% compared to 2021.
Reddit also increased its engagement with over 2.5 billion comments. There too, the platform observed an increase of 7% compared to the previous year, and more than 24 billion upvotes, the version of the “like” or “I like” on Reddit which makes it possible to bring up a publication on the platform or a comment in the conversation.
The platform revealed that the post “Full screenshot of r/place 2022” in the “r/place” subreddit was the most popular post with 342,000 upvotes. Then follow “r/interestingasfuck” with the publication “In 1996 Ukraine handed over nuclear weapons to Russia in exchange for a guarantee never to be threatened or invaded”, which totaled 335,546 upvotes, “r/mademesmile: he finally got his acorn with 326,900 upvotes and “r/aww: Man stops to rescue kitten, gets ambushed by platoon” with 308,700 upvotes. “r/place: Place has ended” completes this top 5 of the most popular publications with 282,700 upvotes.
In France, the most consulted community was “r/france”, followed by “r/place” and “r/amitheassole”.
The platform also highlighted the success of the “r/tifu” community, which rose 20 places in the rankings in just one year, from the 47th most viewed community to 27th. Users visibly favored conversations about honesty and curiosity as the “r/AskMen and r/AskWomen” subreddits saw their growth increase by 59% and 52%, respectively, compared to last year.
The information excited users. If Internet users are now turning more and more to social networks for information, this is confirmed on Reddit with the subreddit “r/worldnews” which is in third place among the most consulted communities. The war in Ukraine was widely followed on the platform through “r/ukraine” which recorded a growth of 76,000% on its views, amounting to 1.8 billion views in one year, and more than 6 million posts and of comments.
Space also fascinated redditors as “r/space” enjoyed a 79% increase in views.
