Studies have shown that taking vitamin D daily reduces the risk of dying from cancer. Medical News Today reported on the 17th that researchers from the German Center for Cancer Research announced the results of a study that vitamin D intake might reduce the risk of cancer death by 12%.

The researchers analyzed data from 14 studies involving a total of 105,000 participants and, among other vitamins, analyzed the correlation between vitamin D3 and cancer incidence. As a result, intermittent intake of very large amounts of vitamin D3 had no effect on cancer mortality, but daily intake reduced cancer mortality by 12%.

In particular, vitamin D3 supplementation was more effective for those aged 70 and older than for younger people, and was more effective for those who started taking vitamin D supplements as a preventive measure before being diagnosed with cancer.

According to the researchers, the findings “mean that basically everyone over the age of 50 might benefit from vitamin D supplementation, including those who have never had cancer.”

Foods that contain vitamin D include canned salmon and tuna, egg yolks, beef liver and cod liver oil, and can also be obtained through exposure to sunlight.
