Foie gras, gingerbread or even chocolate, unsold holiday items sometimes have difficulty selling. Platforms and initiatives are emerging to sell these products at discounted prices.

-30% on foie gras, -40% on salmon and up to -50% reduction on boxes of chocolates. After the holidays, it’s time to get good deals on these types of products. A Parisian nurse spotted cheese at reduced prices thanks to an anti-waste application. She has access to unsold items, removed from the shelves because their expiration date is too close or special packaging for the holidays which is no longer relevant. She pays 7 euros for her basket instead of 18.

A “next calendar”

Recovering unsold items and reselling them at knockdown prices is the specialty of Clément Mery and Jonathan Negrin, co-founders of “Willy anti-waste”. On their site, they offer a “next time calendar”. Every day in January, holiday products, all organic, are sold at half price. They have over 200 partner brands and they claim to have “four times more customers” than the previous year. The goal for them is to save 5,000 holiday products from the trash this year. 76,000 tons of food are wasted after December each year.
