reduction in oil production; Biden will review the Saudi-US relationship Biden re-evaluates US relationship with Saudi Arabia after OPEC decision

Washington: After OPEC announced that it will cut oil production, US President Joe Biden announced that he will reexamine relations with Saudi Arabia, according to White House security spokesman John Kirby. A Saudi-led coalition of oil producers has announced it will stand with Russia to cut production. The decision to cut oil production by two million barrels per day starting in November angered the White House. This is followed by Biden’s response.

Kirby said Biden is disappointed with the OPEC decision and is willing to work with Congress on the future of Saudi relations. Kirby added that the issue is not just regarding the war in Ukraine, but regarding America’s national security interests. Following OPEC’s announcement, Democratic Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Menendez, called for a freeze on cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including arms sales.
