The Road to Jacksonville
Archyde (A): Louis, you’ve rejoined the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2025 season after spending the 2024 season on their practise squad. Tell us about your decision to remain with the team.
Louis Rees-Zammit (LR): Thanks. I’m thrilled to be back in Jacksonville. Despite the challenges of last season, I’ve made real progress with my skills and feel there’s more growth to be had here. The jaguars have been instrumental in my development so far, and I’m confident they’ll continue to support me as I strive towards securing a spot on the final 53-man roster.
A Bold Transition
A: Your decision to switch from rugby union to the NFL was courageous. how has the transition been, and what distinctive skills have you brought from your rugby background?
LR: It’s been challenging, but also deeply rewarding. The speed, physicality, and strategy of American football are quite different from rugby,so there’s been a lot to learn. However, my background in rugby has given me a strong foundation in handling the ball under pressure, evading tackles, and making speedy decisions on the field. I beleive these skills are transferable to the NFL, and I’m working hard to refine them.
The Path Ahead
A: There’s no denying your athletic prowess, Louis. However, competition for a roster spot will be intense. How do you plan to stand out and secure your place on the team?
LR: I’m under no illusions; the path to an NFL roster is competitive and demanding. My plan is to stay dedicated, keep learning, and continuously adapt to the unique challenges of American football. I’m also determined to build strong relationships with my teammates,as I believe that collective effort is key to individual success.
A Thought to Ponder
A: Louis, you’re part of an emerging trend of athletes transitioning between sports. Do you have any advice for other athletes considering a similar career change?
LR: I’d say, go for it! But be prepared for the challenges ahead. It’s a journey filled with learning, growth, and sometimes, setbacks. Stay persistent, and don’t be discouraged by failures. Keep working hard, and believe in your ability to adapt and succeed.
Looking Ahead to 2025
A: The 2025 season is shaping up to be an exciting one for you, louis. what are you most looking forward to?

I’m also eager to connect with Jaguars fans, who have been incredibly supportive throughout my journey. The 2025 season promises to be a year of growth, learning, and hopefully, memorable moments on the football field.
