References as part of a professional loan?

For a young entrepreneur who wants to obtain a professional loan from a bank to create his business, I know that the bank asks for the market study, the financial statement but also the CV.

I would like to know if the bank were to take references from my former employers in the context of granting professional credit or it has nothing to do.

I say this because I had a disagreement with one of my former bosses who will surely not speak well of me if someone calls him.
