Kyiv/Moscow – In view of the Ukrainian counter-offensive, the Russian government is pushing for referendums on accession to Russia in the occupied areas of Ukraine. Pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions on Tuesday announced referenda starting Friday. Referendums have also been announced in the Russian-held region of Kherson in southern Ukraine and in the embattled region of Zaporizhia, where Ukraine’s largest nuclear power plant is located.
