In view of this recent refugee catastrophe in the Mediterranean with probably hundreds of deaths, including many women and children, the question arises for me: Do we know why these people are leaving their homes? On the one hand it may have something to do with war or civil war, on the other hand I think that millions of people in their own homeland no longer see any chance of leading a halfway normal life or of being able to take care of the children. Of course we can’t just take in millions of people and yet they will try to get here. Even meter-high walls and fences will not prevent this. Ergo, the problem can only be solved by sharing, by consciously trying not only for ourselves but also for our fellow human beings to be able to lead a normal life in safety. Only when we become aware of this, when politics finally takes over power again worldwide and pure greed for profit is curbed, only then … but wait, how ridiculous is this idea of mine in view of the realities? Are we aware of that too? As ridiculous as the actions of politicians in the area of climate protection are, it is even more ridiculous in the area of the refugee crisis. Ridiculous? No, inhuman and cruel, unworldly, inhuman and yes, above all cowardly.
