“I played in front of a lot of audiences. Well, not many, but a few. At OKC, it was young and the public was fun. In Detroit, there was a story. But I feel like the Clippers Nation is like the heart. It really is LA. It’s more than that. I don’t mean to offend them, but the Lakers are the lights. They are bright lights. They are Hollywood. It’s the Lakers. We are aware of it. They represent the show. That’s what people called them for so long. But I feel like we’re definitely the heart of the city, and that’s something we really want to embody. »
Already in the past, Doc Rivers had insisted on the “blue collar” side of the Clippers with a public very different from that of the Lakers, where the fans identify more with the qualities of the Clippers. It was also at the initiative of Rivers that the Staples Center had hidden the banners and jerseys withdrawn from the Lakers when the Clippers were playing.
