A telephone call between the foreign ministers On July 18, 2023, the heads of diplomacy of the two countries discussed ways to develop their bilateral and regional cooperation, according to an official Emirati source. Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart, Hussein Amir Abdollahian, in which they discussed strengthening relations between the two countries and joint cooperation in the region.
According to the official UAE news agency, WAM, the two ministers stressed their willingness to serve their common interests and support the stability and prosperity of the region and its peoples. This call comes in the context of the rapprochement between the Gulf States and Iran, after a period of tension that lasted several years.

Last April, Tehran appointed its ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, while in August 2022, Abu Dhabi reinstated its ambassador to Tehran. Saudi Arabia, which severed diplomatic ties with Iran in January 2016 following the attack on its embassy in Tehran by Iranian protesters, also began a dialogue with the Islamic Republic, known as the Al-Ula Dialogue, in January 2021.
This regional rapprochement could have important implications for the security and economy of the Middle East, as well as for international relations, in particular with the United States and Europe.
