Furthermore, the regional governor notes that the measures announced by the prime minister the day after the recent fires, “confirm that the government sympathizes with those affected and learns from what happened, so that evil does not happen again.” At the same time, he expresses his disappointment at the attitude of certain parties, which, he says, choose to exploit natural disasters for purely political gain. “The lack of substance in the opposition speech is abysmal and truly sad. Because in the end it is actually a lack of morals”, he points out, adding that natural disasters have no ideology and their treatment must be supra-partisan.
“If there is not the rudimentary foundation of ethics, how could we achieve the required national consensus on dealing with natural disasters?“, he adds.
Regarding the institutional issues of Local Government, Mr. Hardalias emphasizes the need for a comprehensive review of its role, with particular emphasis on the Region. He also underlines “the importance of the new “Charter of Self-Government”, which is being formed during this time” and will be put up for public consultation in the coming weeks.
