Reinventing Comedy: Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais and the Evolution of his Show

Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais concluded in style the tour of his first show “Jokes, Chapeau, Maman, Magie, Piano” at the Bell Center last July, with the Olivier for the show, the comedian and author of the year.

Aware of the public’s expectations for his next show, the comedian admitted to Martin Matte on Thursday evening that he wanted to reinvent himself.

“I’m not afraid of plateauing, I want to reinvent myself. I almost have the taste, not to rebel against my show, but to present something different from what I have already done,” he said in the chair of the guest of the week at “ Martin Matte live.

“That was already my motivation; I wanted something that resembles me and is original,” he added, while specifying that he wanted to evolve.

Wearing leather for the first segment of the show, a nod to the look of comedians of the 1990s, in particular that of Martin in 1996, Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais also told the host that he had the time to come to see the end of his first show, but to have been a little nervous about the rest.

“I felt a bit dizzy […]. I’m still scared. There was a sort of surprise that people weren’t expecting me, but there are expectations for the next “show”. Above all, it’s a learning experience for me not to try to project people’s expectations onto what I’m going to do.”

A message from Simon and a new segment

Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais inaugurated a completely new, completely crazy improvisation segment on Thursday evening, where characters and scenarios are proposed randomly.

The guest of the week was obviously entitled to his musical biography of Les Appendeux as well as a surprise message from Simon Proulx, the leader of the group Les Trois Accords.

Quality time and wrestling with Maude Landry

Comedian Maude Landry visited Martin Matte Thursday evening at Espace St-Denis to present a topic on the fight. She then had fun creating an alter ego for the host, Martin Lutteur King.

Martin Matte, for his part, seemed a little more in control of his set. He opened his show with the comments he received on his social networks and his usual review of current events.

Under the musical direction of Dumas, “Martin Matte en direct” is presented every Thursday, 8 p.m., on TVA. The host will receive Julie Le Breton next week.
