On the sidelines of the highly anticipated release of Pikmin 4, the first two opuses of the license are back in the form of a compilation, which will be available in physical version on September 22, 2023 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Respectively released in 2001 and 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube, Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 are the first two installments in the series of games created by the famous Shigeru Miyamoto. On the occasion of the release of Pikmin 4 July 21, 2023 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo invites us to discover, or rediscover the first two episodes. Pikmin 1+2 is a compilation of both games in HD remastered version, already available on Nintendo eShop, and which will arrive in a physical edition on September 22, 2023 on Nintendo Switch.

If you’ve never touched the Pikmin license, let’s start by remembering that these are real-time strategy games, in which you play a character lost on a new planet. Fortunately, he quickly meets the Pikmin, creatures halfway between animal and plant, who are kind enough to help him. It will therefore be necessary to gather groups of Pikmin and entrust them with different tasks, whether it is to fight other creatures, to collect resources or to make their way through the environment, to complete your adventure.

It was while developing the Nintendo GameCube that Shigeru Miyamoto came up with the idea for Pikmin. In order to demonstrate the power of the new console, he wanted to develop a game in which players could move a very large number of characters on the screen at the same time. The first demonstration of this technology has also remained famous, since it was a technical demo entitled Super Mario 128 (with 128 Mario moving on the screen), long imagined as a sequel to Super Mario 64.

In Pikmin 1, we embody Olimar, whose ship has just crashed on an unknown planet. Dressed in a spacesuit to protect himself from the oxygen of the planet, toxic for his species, Olimar will have to recover all the parts of his ship, scattered on the planet, before his spacesuit stops working. To achieve this, he asks for the help of the Pikmins, capable of working as a team under the orders of the players.

In Pikmin 2, we find Olimar, back on the planet PNF-404 which he now knows very well. But this time, he does not arrive by accident, but by interest, since the company that employs him is bankrupt and threatens to sell his ship. To repay the debt, we will have to search for treasures all over the planet, with the help of the Pikmin of course, but also of Louie, his colleague and friend who happens to be responsible for the bankruptcy of the company. The great novelty of this title, in addition to new colors for the Pikmin, is the possibility of playing in cooperation with two players.

Pikmin 1 + 2 will be available in physical version on September 22, 2023 on Nintendo Switch. The compilation is already available in dematerialized version on Nintendo eShop.
