Everything we know regarding the system that will replace macOS Sonoma
It seems like it was yesterday when macOS Sonoma arrived stably on all compatible Macs, but there is an important fact to keep in mind: we are five months away from seeing his successor. macOS 15 is already in full internal development phase within the secret laboratories of Apple Park.
And since five months is a short time, it’s time to collect everything we know regarding this upcoming macOS 15 in one place. It will go hand in hand with iOS 18, so it should be one of the most interesting versions of macOS in recent years.
What is the latest version of macOS 2023?
The most recent stable version of macOS is macOS 14 Sonomapresented in June 2023 and launched on September 26, 2023. Among its main new features are animated wallpapers, widgets on the desktop and a new lock screen more similar to that of iOS and iPadOS.
macOS Sonoma is also known for including the Game Porting Kit, a set of tools that allows developers and even hobbyists to run Windows games on a Mac without too many complications.
What name is macOS 15 going to have?

Apple has registered these names as trademarks, so they remain as possible candidates. Mammoth is a name that has been around for many years and its time never seems to come, perhaps this year will be the year in which its luck changes.
What’s new in macOS 15?
There are no rumors regarding the new features that macOS 15 may bring, although some interesting concepts are already circulating that are betting on slight changes in the design, somewhat resembling that of visionOS:

- iMac Pro: models released in 2017.
- MacBook Air: 2020 models and later.
- MacBook Pro: 2018 models and later.
- Mac Pro: 2019 models and later.
- Mac mini: models from 2020 onwards.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if macOS 15 was the first version of macOS exclusively compatible with Macs with an Apple Silicon chip. Macs with Intel chips would begin to fall behind, running macOS Sonoma on the latest models.
When is macOS 15 coming out?
macOS 15 will be presented to the developer community at the upcoming WWDC, the annual conference usually held in early June. From then on, beta versions of the system will appear until its final launch, which may remain in September or October of this year.
How to update to macOS 15
When available, macOS 15 can be installed on all compatible computers through Settings, General section and ‘Software Update’ section. The update will be completely freeand we recommend making a backup copy before doing it to save our data in case of errors during the process.
