Release of Abducted Catholic Priest and Student in Nigeria: A Story of Hope and Redemption

Abuja: A priest and priest student kidnapped from Diocese of Minna, Nigeria have been released. Fr., a native of Mali, who was kidnapped on August 2. Paul Sanogo and Melkiori Mahinini, a priest student from Tanzania, were released after three weeks. Both are members of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Minna Diocese.

Both the captives are members of a community of African missionaries known as the ‘White Fathers’. The abductors entered the priest’s residence in Geydena, Niger city in the early hours of the morning and opened fire.

It is with great joy that we inform you of the return of our two brothers who were abducted from our community in the Diocese of Minna, Niger. Both of them are safe and sound despite going through a terrible experience.’ The Niger Provincial Superior of the White Fathers, Fr. Pam Dennis reported.

He thanked the Diocese of Minna for working for the release of the captives and prayed for those who hurt others and earn easy money in wrong ways. Dennis added.
