There is a lack of treatment options for epidermolysis bullosa. A wound dressing with birch extract can provide relief. Another study from the USA also supports the “hit hard and early” treatment concept for psoriasis in order to avoid comorbidity.

Specific therapy options are also lacking for epidermolysis bullosa. A survey conducted earlier showed that accelerated wound healing in this rare genetic disease is of fundamental importance for doctors and patients and makes patient care easier.1

In the double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III study EASE with 252 EB patients, the wound dressing Oleogel-S10, a 10 percent dry extract of triterpenes (obtained from birch bark) in sunflower oil, which is applied directly to the wound at least every four days when changing the dressing, was convincing applied to an open wound: After 90 days, the wound healed more quickly than a control gel.2
