“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce my departure from the Giro,” reacted the world champion in a press release. “As part of team protocol, I performed a routine test which unfortunately came back positive. My experience here was really special and I was looking forward to competing for the next two weeks. I cannot thank the staff and the riders enough who have made so many sacrifices to prepare for the Giro. I will be cheering them on over the next two weeks.”
