Leaving the race with a COVID-19 infection was a very abrupt end to what could have been a great story”, said the Brabançon who then spoke of all the sacrifices to arrive in the best possible shape at the start of this Tour of Italy. “6 months of complete preparation for this single race. Sacrifices, long days in the rain, long periods away from home. Everything was going according to plan, but that’s the way the sport is. Ups and downs are part of our job and I can accept that without any problem.”
