Remembering Dr. Jere Lane Green: A Life of Accomplishment and Legacy

DR. JERE LANE GREEN Aug. 19, 1935 – Nov. 1, 2023

Dr. Jere Lane Green passed away on November 1, 2023, at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, surrounded by his loving family. Jere was born on August 19, 1935, in Clovis, NM, to Lowell Clarence Green and O’leta Fern (Lane) Green. He and his sister, Judith Green, lived with their parents in Clovis until 1945 when they moved to Santa Fe, where Lowell was Clerk of Court for the Supreme Court of New Mexico for many years.

Jere graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1953 and then attended the University of New Mexico where he earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He later earned a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from UNM and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jere was a staff member in Group CMB/MST-11 at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1957 until he retired as Group Leader in 1993. After retirement, he worked as a part-time consultant in CMB Division and for the Science Application International Corp. Additionally, he spent his time volunteering in the history library at the Palace of the Governors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid glider pilot. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend.

Jere is survived by his beloved wife, Shelby Jean (Cook) Green, whom he was happily married to for 63 years. He is additionally survived by his two children, Dr. Justin L. Green of Los Alamos and Stacy Green of Dallas, Texas; his grandchildren, Megan and Madison Green of Kansas City, Kansas, Ryan Pugh of Detroit, Michigan, Katherine and her husband Jordan Roiko of Dallas, Texas; his two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Carson Roiko of Dallas, Texas; and his sister, Judy Green of Clovis, NM.

In lieu of flowers, Jere and his family would be grateful for donations to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society at 100 Caja Del Rio Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
