2023-09-19 17:12:00

Our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws revealed this Tuesday that the oldest Belgian, Madgalena Janssens – known as Magda Janssens – died Monday evening at the age of 111 years and six months. Since November 2022 and the death of Marcelle Lévaz, she was also the oldest member of the Benelux.

Magda Janssens, born March 16, 1912, died in the rest home where she had resided since she was 90, the Notre-Dame de la Consolation establishment in Zandhoven (Antwerp). One of her daughters told our Flemish colleagues that her mother was not ill, but had passed away in her sleep.

She had four children (two daughters predeceased her), three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
