Ceremony at the Abbey of Aulne
After the first tributes in the town center of Thuin, the funeral procession moved to the Abbaye D’Aulne. An impressive crowd came to the spot. The Abbey did not know how to welcome everyone. Outside, loudspeakers broadcast the speeches given by the former Mayor’s friends, including Paul Magnette.

The current Mayor of Charleroi could not hold back his tears. On several occasions, he had to stop before continuing his speech: “In this political world often so cruel, so obscure, you have always decided. You were not the man of the narrow circles of power, of interpersonality and intrigues. On the contrary. You loved nothing so much to be among people, to listen to them, to reassure them.
