(CNN) — Actor Michael Gambon died at the age of 82 after a “attack of pneumonia,” according to a statement issued Thursday on behalf of his wife Lady Gambon and son Fergus Gambon, PA Media reported.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon,” read the statement issued by his publicist Clair Dobbs, according to PA.
“Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, after a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82 years old.”
“We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and we thank you for your messages of support and love.”
Gambon was known for his extensive catalog of television, film and radio work and played the role of Albus Dumbledore in six of the eight Harry Potter films.
