Rémi Cuche, the nephew of speed legend Didier Cuche, has an accident during final training on the Streif and has to be taken to the hospital by helicopter. A knee injury is feared.

The second training session on the most difficult downhill course in the world was almost completed without serious injuries. Unfortunately, only almost. Because two of the last three riders on the route, Rémi Cuche and Barnabas Szollos, fell and were possibly seriously injured.

The 23-year-old Cuche hits a bump in the upper part of the route, which is why his training ride ends when he enters the steep slope. Finally, Rémi Cuche has to be transported away by helicopter. How seriously he was injured is still unclear. “According to Uncle Didier, the first suspicion is a cruciate ligament injury,” reports “Blick”.

Szollos loses helmet on impact

Barnabas Szollos probably got it even worse. The Israeli falls badly in the mousetrap. When he hits the icy slope, Szollo’s helmet is knocked off. Several emergency doctors are on the route to provide first aid; the rescue takes around half an hour, according to “Blick”. Szollos is also taken to the hospital. There was now a slight all-clear: the 25-year-old was approachable and his life was not in danger.

However, another Swiss escaped with horror. Christophe Torrent loses control of his skis, lands in the safety nets and is immediately catapulted out again. The 24-year-old can actually continue his ride without falling.

The fastest in the final training is the Frenchman Nils Allegre. Stefan Rogentin is the best Swiss in 13th place, 0.86 seconds behind. Marco Odermatt brakes before reaching the finish and loses over a second to the fastest time. You can find out more about the final training here.
