Remparts: a victory signed Charles Truchon

A day after suffering a rare loss at home, the Quebec Remparts rebounded at Center Marcel Dionne on Friday, defeating the Drummondville Voltigeurs 3-1.

Even though they were trailing after the first period, Patrick Roy’s men never gave up and took the lead in the second period.

Charle Truchon was the hero of the match for the Red Devils. The 19-year-old defenseman, in his fourth campaign with the team, scored a rare brace and added an assist to propel his team to victory.

The trigger for the game was certainly the major penalty that guard Mikael Diotte received. In the middle period, he struck a violent knee against Nicolas Savoie. The Remparts defender had to retreat to the locker room, in pain, but returned to the game in the third period.

However, his teammates were quick to avenge him. After 30 seconds of massive attack, Truchon tied the game by jumping on a return throw. A little over 2 min 30 sec. later, it was veteran Charles Savoie’s turn to flash the red light. A video replay was necessary to confirm the success of the Eustachois, but he did indeed give the Remparts the lead.

Finally, in the third period, Truchon completed his excellent evening of work by demystifying Jacob Goobie with a precise shot.

The Nova Scotia keeper made 19 saves in the loss.

For his part, after conceding the first goal of the game, goalkeeper William Rousseau gave nothing more to the Voltigeurs. He made 20 saves en route to his 28th victory of the campaign.

The only player who managed to pierce his armor is the giant format defender Maveric Lamoureux. The Arizona Coyotes’ first-round pick fired a hard-playing one-timer on the power play in the first period, scoring his fifth goal of the campaign.

A long-awaited duel

The Remparts will be entitled to a day off before returning to action on Sunday at the Videotron Center for one of the most anticipated games of the campaign.

For the second and last time of the regular season, the Old Capital team will come up against the powerful Halifax Mooseheads, the second-best team in the Eastern Conference.

In their first meeting in 2023, in Nova Scotia, the Remparts suffered a 2-1 loss in a shootout.
