Remy Gardner (KTM): “No MotoGP place 2023 for me” / MotoGP

After the Tech3 driver duo once again disappointed at KTM’s home race in Spielberg, staying in the 2023 MotoGP paddock is becoming increasingly unlikely for both Remy Gardner and Raúl Fernández.

In qualifying for the Austrian GP, Remy Gardner and Raúl Fernández had to be content with grid positions 22 and 23. In the 28-lap race on Sunday, both KTM Tech3 drivers also showed a poor performance, Fernández ended up 42 seconds behind race winner Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) in 18th place.

“It was a difficult race. I gave my maximum, but in the end we weren’t competitive. Above all, the KTM lacks traction and we also have deficits during the braking phase,” was the devastating verdict of the frustrated Spaniard.

The race was even worse for stablemate Gardner as the 2021 Moto2 World Champion sank his KTM RC16 in the gravel trap on lap six. Gardner picked up his bike again, but ended up losing and one lap behind. “I drove into turn 4 too fast, couldn’t stop the bike and then went into the gravel bed and fell over,” Gardner described the events.

He added: “It then took me a lap to get the bike going again. At least I finished the race. It was a weekend to forget, three falls are too many.”

Gardner currently has no contract for 2023, but he considers it unlikely that he will remain in the MotoGP paddock. “It looks like there will be no MotoGP place for me next season.”
