René, the man who slaughtered his bichon, tries to explain his gesture: “I couldn’t take any more of his barking”

The resident had explained feeling terribly alone since the death of his previous dog. A call for help that had touched a family from Colfontaine, who then decided to donate their little dog to him. Unfortunately, on the night of Monday to Tuesday, when he had just acquired Pantoufle, René decided to seriously injure him because he was barking too much, according to him. The animal eventually had to be euthanized.

René killed Pantoufle, his adopted Maltese bichon: he will have to leave the assisted living facility in Wanze

The former owners said they were terribly shocked, the management of the residence had for its part announced its decision to dismiss René from the establishment. The resident risks 8 days to 3 years in prison, and a fine ranging from 100 euros to one million euros. But how to explain such a gesture? Our colleagues from Sudinfo interviewed René to better understand his motivations. The latter seems only very little affected by his horrible gesture.

“He kept barking, I tried to feed him, he wouldn’t stay put, he was going around and around the table. Finally, from the start, I didn’t feel this dog ( …) I couldn’t take any more of his barking, I tried to calm him down by tightening the leash but that didn’t help. So I saw red, I took a knife and I struck”, he confided to our colleagues. All the same, René ended up timidly admitting that he shouldn’t have acted in this way. “It was not a good idea, I should have locked him in the bathroom instead”.
